Last, read the interview!

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Ok, lets kick off this interview like all our interviews. Can you say your name, what you play and the band you’re in?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: My name is Alex Russin, I play guitar and sing.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: My name is Haroun, I play guitar.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Alright, first question tonight is gonna be improved… I saw there are a lot of huge motherfuckers at this show. Dudes with HUGE guts all sweaty, shirt off, dancing up a storm. Which city has the biggest dudes coming out to shows lol?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Wilkes Barre… there’s not a lot of little dudes there.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Yeah, probably Wilkes Barre haha. There’s a lot of good food there.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Oh, yeah? Where is the food joint I’d want to go to if I was there for a night?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Nardozzo’s

Nardozzo's Pizza

(Cold World) Alex Russin: For at night? Yeah, you’re gonna want the pizza at Nardozzo’s… or Angelos…

Angelos Pizzeria

or you’re gonna go for hot dogs at Abe’s…

Abe's Hot Dogs

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: What about Sweet Treat?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Sweat Treat is more for breakfast. That could be a whole day haha. I play this game a lot.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Yeah, we’re foodies.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: But after the show everybody goes to Angelos. Thats just because it’s open till midnight.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: So then what is your favorite type of food? I know you guys said you were about to hit up Cantina in a bit for some Mexican food.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: I really love Thai food.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: My favorite type of food would have to be American food… maybe Mexican food.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: … I like bbq… that’s my shit. Its my favorite.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Alright, so Cold World has some hints at hip hop influences in your music… I’m assuming you’re into hip hop? What artists are you into?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Everything. I love hip hop. Lord Finesse, Kool G Rap, O.C.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: I’ve been jocking the shit out of the new M.E.D. album… Evidence…

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: I like Evidence… I mean I still fuck with Mobb Deep…

(EM!) Bob Ricca: They’re playing with Wu Tang in a week or two I think.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: There is definitely some cool shit thats come out… Mayhem Lauren, Roc Marciano…

(EM!) Bob Ricca: I’m sure we could go on and on about hip hop haha, so what is your song writing process for this new album you guys are currently putting together? Is it someone comes up with a guitar riff, or do you guys write different parts of songs and put them together…

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Man, that’s a really good questions.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: That’s a great question. It really depends on each song. One or two songs for this new records Haroun had the whole song and was like “here is a song”… one or two songs on the record I did the same thing. Were talking about the new records we’re recording now. Some of them we wrote all together, some come off one riff that we just built upon, some we’ll hear a riff from something and be like “cool lets just steal that haha”.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Everyone lives far apart, so it’s hard to do shit.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Yeah, it’s definitely hard sometimes.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Do you guys send each other riffs online or anything like that?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Nah not really.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Wait, I thought you guys live in Wilkes Barre… how far apart are we talking?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Well I used to live in Detroit and just moved to Philly in the past month. Our bass player lives in Arizona.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Our singer lives in London.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: What the fuck?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Haha, he lives in England… sorry. I’ll get in trouble if I say London.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: That is not the answer I was expecting to get haha. So, what is the first show you guys ever played?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: The first show we ever played was at this old place in Wilkes Barre called The Zoo. Actually, the first show we ever played was a single song on one of Blacklisted’s sets, then we played our friend Chris’s birthday party. The was our first full show, our second show was in Montreal, then our third show was Positive Numbers… whatever year that was. Then from there we’ve just kept going.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: What about your first show as a musician? This is where all the skeletons come out of the closet haha… what was the band called? Who did you play with?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Hahaha, aw… that is umm…. I was 13, it was in a basement. It was a punk/hardcore/ska band called The Vermicious Knids.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: What the fuck is that?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: It’s… hahaha…. it’s the animal that eats Oompa Loompa’s in Willy Wonka hahahaha

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Hahaha oh alright haha….

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Yeah, that’s mine. I’m 28, so 13 was a good long time ago.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: The first band I ever played with live was a band called I’m Gonna Kill you…

(Cold World) Alex Russin: That’s ALOT better than mine haha

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: It was me and my brother and we had songs about lighting emo kids on fire, this was like… damn I don’t even know…

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Was it a metal band?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Haha man, I don’t even know what it was. It was fucked up.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Delete my answer, my first show was with Cold World haha

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Alright, so being into food, which band members house would you go to for a decent home cooked meal?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: For a home cooked meal? Probably no one… because everyone goes out to eat every fucking day. But I will say, someone who is not in the band… our guitar tech Arthur from War Hungry, he’ll cook a mean meal.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Like what is something he would make?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: The first question Arthur ever asked me was “If you were on a deserted island, what three ingredients would you bring?”

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: … so what was your answer?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: I think I said something like hamburgers, bread and ketchup… his was like Russian dressing, pastrami and wheat bread haha

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Are any of the guys in the band vegetarian?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: I am. Which is weird that I say I like BBQ… but I like the wheat gluten.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Ok, another random question… What is a Christmas present that you remember growing up that you were really excited about? I know for me I was always stoked on Ghostbusters stuff… Ninja Turtles…

(Cold World) Alex Russin: I used to have the Ghostbusters pack… I was super stoked on that. That blue pack with the foam thing, my Mom still won’t throw it out.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: They had that trap you could step on and it would open to suck in all the ghosts you were trapping

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Those were definitely awesome. I had a G.I. Joe powerwheels… it was like Tracker…

and I got a Rocket Ismail jersey. It was fake… it was just a blue jersey with screen printed letters but I wore it everyday.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Did you guys have Starter jackets growing up and what team did you have?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Yes haha! I actually beat a kid up and took his Starter jacket when I was like 11 years old.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Haha, what team was it?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Charlotte Hornets

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Haha its always the Hornets…

(Cold World) Alex Russin: I had the Steelers

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: I also had a North Carolina one with a matching hat

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Yo, I had a Notre Dame one with a matching hat. It was a string hat… you remember those, they were only around for like a year. It was like a pony tail and you’d pull the zip thing tight.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Haha those hats were the worst. So next question, is playing in a band your fulltime job… or do you have other jobs as well when you aren’t on tour?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: For me it is pretty much my full time gig. Alex is actually studying to be a lawyer and is in law school.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Oh shit thats awesome dude.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Yeah we play music a lot but for me its not really my main focus right now… like he said I have law school. I mean they do a lot of stuff musically and I do too… but not nearly as much. Haroun is actually in another band called Build And Destroy (featuring members of RZL DZL) that are really good.

Build And Destroy

(EM!) Bob Ricca: So are you constantly touring?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Haroun is always playing… and for me I try to play as much as possible… but as much as possible is really pretty limited.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Ok so what about other hobbies besides playing music? Video games? Anyone collect anything? Comic books? Sneakers? Artwork? etc…

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: Nick, our drummer collects sneakers, polos, and comics and all this shit… me, I keep it simple haha. I like movies, I like music. That’s about it.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: I collect some sports stuff, music…

(EM!) Bob Ricca: What teams are you reppin? Steelers you already said…

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Yeah, Steelers and I’m a diehard Phillies fan, Sixers, Flyers, Temple…

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Haha so pretty much all the Philly teams except the Eagles. My friend has season tickets to the Sixers and sometimes he can’t even give them away haha.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: It’s fun to like the Sixers because they are so bad. I don’t give a shit if they win or lose, I just like to watch.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Next question, what is the first job you ever had?

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Um… I worked in a kitchen at a hospital. Served food to doctors and people who would eat because it was super cheap.

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: I worked at Express. It was bad haha.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: So what other genres of music do you guys listen to besides what you play and hip hop?

(Cold World) Haroun Khan: I like all sorts of shit… except the common answer that I can’t fuck with country. I like 60s and 70s stoner rock, jazz, soul, old motown music… all sorts of stuff.

(Cold World) Alex Russin: Yeah my iPod is all over the place. I’ve actually been able to listen to the radio more often lately because XM radio makes it so easy. Its almost fun.

(EM!) Bob Ricca: Alright well I just want to thank you guys for this interview. You were awesome tonight and you always are when you come through Philly.
